Pierfrancesco Ulpiani is a first stage researcher on applied and condensed matter Physics. His work is mainly focused on the development of neutron instrumentation and material characterization in neutron and gamma field. He has participated to many conferences and  experiments at the ISIS facility.

Research Activity

Pierfrancesco Ulpiani is a first stage researcher on applied and condensed matter Physics. His work is mainly focused on the development of neutron instrumentation and material characterization in neutron and gamma field. He has participated to many conferences and  experiments at the ISIS facility.
Regarding the neutron instrumentation development, Pierfrancesco has studied an improved acquisition method for the VESUVIO spectrometer installed at the ISIS pulsed neutron and muon source which has brought to an increasing effect on the counting statistics and a decrease of the statistical noise.
Concerning the material characterization Pierfrancesco is at the moment studying the changing in the zero point energy of different ice phases. Further studies will be devoted to measurements, using the improved parameters of VESUVIO, of samples that could not be performed before.
